Big Market Bounce: Next Bull Market?

The market is ripping higher now, and Brian and I had some amazing trades on TQQQ, TSLA, and AMD. In particular, the semiconductor sector, which got really beat up last year, is leading the charge. The SOXL ETF, based on the semiconductor sector, which offers 3x leverage, is surging, and the puts that Ardi and I sold on January 6 and 8 are doing well. You can watch our recap here. Paras had the best trading day of 2023.
This week’s economic calendar and numbers are light, but we do have a fresh CPI (inflation report) number coming out on Thursday, and that could certainly once again lead to huge volatility. Economists expect a cool down in core inflation from 6% to 5.7%, otherwise, we may end up having a massive move up or down. Given the job numbers released on Friday, the job market is still strong and weak growth is decreasing, and the idea of a “soft landing” is once again on the table. Again, if JPow and his colleagues manage to cool down inflation without destroying the job market (aka recession), then the soft landing will have been achieved and they will be remembered in history as some of the best bankers in the world.
Earnings season starts soon, and the majority of investors are expecting a sharp decline in corporate profit margins. This is also a test of how resilient American companies are, and it will be exciting to see what the biggest companies in the world do over the next few weeks.
