$517,000 Cheque From the Government

As many of you closely follow my journey, you may remember that in 2022, I made a significant loss of around $2,000,000 on a trade with TNA. It happened live in front of everyone, and those were the darkest times I’ve experienced in my life. It was a painful experience, and I won’t hide the fact that I cried.

$2 million is a substantial amount of money, especially for someone like me who started with nothing and even borrowed $5,000 from my uncle to come to Canada and pursue my Ph.D. My family was never wealthy, and we faced many challenges.

My father struggled with addiction and severe depression, suffered a stroke, and was disabled for two years until he passed away at the age of 52. The true champion in our lives was my mother.

I share this story to emphasize that $2 million is a significant sum. However, it was Ardi who helped me understand that money can come back in a few years, and even if it doesn’t, it’s just money, and life goes on.

But approximately one year later, I received a $517,000 cheque from the government. It was a tax loss rebate! Over the past few years, I had paid millions of dollars in trading income taxes to Canada, and this time, the government came to my aid. In Canada, you can claim up to three years of previous year’s profits and receive a refund.

However, taxes can be complicated, and each country has its own rules and regulations.
